Beyond the gates of Whispen Manor, the paths have a habit of leading somewhere unexpected.

The Manor keeps its secrets behind closed doors, Bearoaks Woods begins where the garden ends and a light is nearly always burning at Halfspoon Cottage.

There is Mill somewhere beyond the trees, although the Miller and his wife seem to know rather more about the inhabitants of Whispen than anyone has told them.

And of course , there is the Bear.

She knows who lives here, which doors are best left closed and where the most interesting things are kept.
